The Irish Canoe Union River Safety Rescue course is set up as first step into the understanding of performing rescues in a white water environment. This can sound overwhelming at first but such is the nature of the RSR 1 course that a course can be focused to suit the need & experience of those taking part.
Their are some core elements that are covered in all courses
Personal Equipment
Prioritising Rescue
Systematic approach to a rescue
Self Rescue
Throw rope rescue techniques
Basic Hydrology /Dynamics of river features
Shallow Water Crossings
Defensive/Offensive swimming
Communication
Leadership roles and decision-making on a riverbank
Stabilisation lines
Our approach to River Safety Rescue is very much a practical & dynamic, we look at ways to use the above ideas and how to put them into use in an actual river environment so when you leave us your are in a better position to look after you and your friends on the river when it counts.
We can add extra elements to the day to suit the needs of your group.
All RSR are approved by the Irish Canoe Union and you will receive a an ICU Certificate upon successful completion of the course.
We run a selection calendar dates for individuals to attend but also book days for private groups & clubs.
